The Forester men's basketball team closed out the game with an 11-2 run to prevail 71-66 at Monmouth College on Tuesday.
Lake Forest trailed by as many as nine points in the second half and faced a 64-60 deficit with three minutes to play. A pair of free throws by junior forward
Michael Michaud with 2:43 to play cut the margin in half and, after the Fighting Scots added one to their lead, junior forward
Alex Knight knocked down a game-tying three-pointer with 2:09 left.
Sophomore wing
Alex Forowycz scored the Foresters' next four points. His steal and layup by gave them the lead with 1:37 left and, after Monmouth made one of two free throws again, he knocked down a step-back jumper to make it a three-point game with 45 seconds remaining.
Michaud grabbed a defensive rebound and scored the game's final points on a pair of free throws with 30 seconds to play.
Michaud led all players in the game with 23 points while Knight and Forowycz were next on the team with 18 and 17, respectively. All three players shot 8-for-13 from the field and Michaud was 7-for-8 from the line. He also pulled down eight rebounds, one fewer than Knight.
Freshman wing
Coltrane Marchand chipped in with seven rebounds as Lake Forest had a 33-24 edge on the boards. The Foresters also shot 55.8 percent from the field, their highest mark in nearly two months, while the Scots were at just 46.6 percent.
Lake Forest's second straight victory raised the team's overall record to 5-14 and Midwest Conference mark to 3-7. Monmouth fell to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in the league.
The Foresters will continue MWCÂ play against Lawrence University Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
