The Forester women's hockey team was defeated 2-1 by Adrian College, the fourth-ranked team in the nation, at home on Saturday.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the game's first 15 minutes but were unable to add to that lead against Lake Forest sophomore goaltender
Angie Lombardi. Lombardi made 60 saves in the contest, including 45 in the final two periods. Her save total is the third-highest single-game mark in program history and the most by a Forester in nearly 16 years.Â
The outcome of the game was very much in doubt after Lake Forest freshman forward
Tallulah Bryant scored with 6:47 to play in the third period. Senior
Danielle Selby's centering pass slipped past an Adrian player and reached Bryant just inside the left circle. Bryant back-handed it by the Bulldog goalie for her third goal of the season. Sophomore forward
Zara Post was also credited with an assist on the play.
Lombardi exited for an extra attacker for the final 43 seconds but the Foresters were unable to complete the comeback.
The loss dropped Lake Forest's overall record to 11-9-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 8-4-0. Adrian improved to 16-2-0 overall and 10-0-0 in the league.
The Foresters will host the Bulldogs again in a non-conference game next Sunday 1:00 p.m.
