Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Foresters Edged Out in Overtime at Augustana

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team led for most of the evening but eventually fell 84-83 in overtime at Augustana College on Sunday.

The Foresters were ahead by as many as nine points several times in the opening period and took a 42-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Vikings outscored their guests 12-4 in the first four minutes of the second half but their one-point lead was quickly erased by consecutive baskets by the visitors, whose advantage reached six points on a bucket by junior guard Alex Knight with 10:43 remaining. Augustana went back ahead by one three more times, the last with two-and-a-half minutes left. A traditional three-point play by Knight gave the Foresters a two-point lead but the home team tied the score  at 79 with 56 seconds on the clock. Neither squad scored again in regulation.

Lake Forest made pair of shots in overtime. The first was answered by an Augustana basket and the second by a three pointer with 1:24 to play. Both teams committed a turnover and the Foresters missed the only field goal attempt of the final minute.

Knight shot 9-for-11 from the field and led the Foresters with 22 points. Sophomore wings Luke Arington and Alex Forowycz combined for nine-three-pointers while scoring 20 and 15 points, repsectively. Junior forward Michael Michaud finished with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double in the last six games and sixth this season. He also had a career-high four assists while senior guard Zach Foster led the visitors with six.

As one might imagine in an overtime game, the team stats were nearly identical. Both made 32 field goals, the Foresters in 65 attempts and the Vikings in 66. Augustana made two more three-pointers (12-10) than Lake Forest but was outscored 9-8 at the free throw line. Turnovers were even at 15 apiece and the home team had a slight 34-33 edge in rebounds.

The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 3-7 while Augustana improved to 3-8.

Lake Forest will be in action again at the Loras Classic December 29-30. After taking on the hosts at 7:00 p.m. on day one, the Foresters will face Simpson College the following afternoon at 2:00.
