The Forester women's hockey team defeated visiting Concordia University Wisconsin 3-0 in non-conference action Tuesday night.
Junior goaltender
Donna Fowler made a career-high 30 saves to earn her second shutout as a Forester. She stopped all eight of the Falcons' shot on goal in the opening period, made 10 saves in the second, and added a dozen more in the third. It was Lake Forest's third shutout during its current five-game winning streak, a run that began with a 4-0 victory at Concordia Wisconsin on November 10.
The Foresters' first two goals on Tuesday were power play scores off the stick of junior defenseman
Abby Meyer. She fired a shot past the goalie from above the left circle at the 6:11 mark of the first period and struck from right in front of her team's bench at 12:23 in the second. Senior forward
Danielle Selby and freshman forward
Jasmine Kohl assisted on what proved to be the official game-winner and the second score was set up by freshman forwards
Ella Maher and
Victoria Liu.
Meyer now has a team-high four goals on the year.
The home team added an insurance score at the 9:33 mark of the third period. Kohl's shot from the left circle was stopped by the goalie but the puck caromed out to sophomore defenseman
Holly Kiernan, who shot from a similar angle on the right before the goalie could get in position to make another save.
Liu also earned an assist on the play and leads the team with six helpers and seven points so far this season.
Lake Forest is now 5-4-0 and Concordia Wisconsin 3-6-0 this year.
After a weekend off, the Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play against Lawrence University December 1-2. The teams will face off in Appleton, Wisconsin, Friday night at 8:00 and in Lake Forest's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse the next evening at 5:00.
