Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Foresters Take Series Opener at Trine 1-0

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team prevailed 1-0 at Trine University Friday night in the opener of the teams' weekend series.

It was the second shutout in the last three games for freshman goaltender Chelsea Denniss, who stopped all 24 shots on goal from the Thunder. Ten of her saves came in the final period as Dennis raised her save percentage on the season to .933.

The only goal of the contest came off the stick of Forester sophomore forward Macy Gehrke at the 9:10 mark of the third period. She and senior forward Caitlin Dahut battled with a pair of Trine players for the puck along the boards on the left side of the offensive end of the ice. Dahut came away with it and fed Gehrke as she skated toward the middle of the zone. Gehrke then blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.and first career game-winner.

Lake Forest out-shot the home team 15-8 in the opening period, 14-6 in the second, and 12-10 in the third. Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play on the night.

The victory raised the Foresters' overall record on the season to 3-4-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 3-2-0. Trine is now 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again at Trine Saturday afternoon at 2:00 (ET).
