The Forester football team was edged out 15-14 by visiting University of Chicago in Saturday's season finale.
Both defenses forced four turnovers in the contest. Two of those came on interceptions by Forester sophomore safety
Thomas DeChesaro, who returned one of those 41 yards for a touchdown to give the home team a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. It was Lake Forest's fifth defensive touchdown of the year, just one fewer than the defense has allowed.
Lake Forest's other score came on a 25-yard run by the team's quarterback, graduate student
Tre Stewart. It was the 18th rushing touchdown of his career, which ranks seventh in program history.
Chicago's comeback began with a 64-yard catch and run touchdown with 6:43 to play in the second quarter and continued with a field goal that made the halftime score 14-9. The Maroon's winning score came on a fumble recovery and 42-yard return with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter.
Junior running back
Mal Chunn led the Forester offense with 65 yards on nine carries. He finished the season with 6.3 yards per carry, the ninth-best average in program history.
Lake Forest's leading tacklers on the day were a pair of graduate students. Linebacker
Javan Ah Quin finished with nine stops while defensive end
Alex Bendler had eight. Ah Quin added his third interception of the fall, as did junior linebacker Nik Reick. Bendler registered one final tackle for loss, which moved him into second place in team history in that category with 50.5 in his career.
The Foresters finished the season with an overall record of 7-3 and Midwest Conference mark of 6-3. Chicago also posted a 6-3 conference record and was 6-4 overall.
