The Lake Forest College women's hockey team collected its first victory of the season Friday night, blanking host Concordia University Wisconsin 4-0.
Freshman goaltender Chrlsea Denniss made 44 saves on the night, the most in a shutout performance by a Forester in program history. She made 14 saves in the opening period and 9 in the second before stopping all 21 of the Falcons' shots on goal in the final 20 minutes.
The visitors took the early lead just 56 seconds into the contest when sophomore forward
Emma Sweeney struck for the first time this season. Sophomore forward
Macy Gehrke and freshman defenseman
Kate Brennan were credited with assists on the play.
The score remained 1-0 until Lake Forest pulled away with three tallies in the second period. Freshman forward
Tallulah Bryant netted the first goal of her career after a lofted pass from Brennan reached the far boards, where Bryant chased it down and headed toward the left side of the goal. The Falcon goalie stopped her first shot but not the second at the 2:18 mark. The size of the lead increased again when senior forward
Danielle Selby scored at 6:46. Senior forward Caitlin Dahut fed her the puck near mid-ice and Selby did the rest, blasting in a shot from the middle of the left circle. Selby also assisted on freshman forward
Ella Maher's first career goal at the 12:51 mark and that turned out to be the final score of the contest.
Both teams are now 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. They will complete the weekend series at Lake Forest Saturday night at 7:30.
