The Lake Forest College football team defeated visiting Beloit College 41-0 on Saturday to remain tied atop the Midwest Conference standings.
The Foresters now have five shutouts, their highest single-season total since 1937. They out-gained the Buccaneers 438-191 and possessed the ball for 39:43 on Saturday.
The defense also added to its turnover total on the year with interceptions by senior defensive backs
Trenton Brail and
Alex Heim. Junior defensive back
Darion Miller recovered a fumble forced by freshman defensive lineman
Preston Mosher and the special teams caused another turnover when sophomore linebacker
Tucker Forrest grabbed a fumble forced by junior linebacker
Jackson Gehrisch.
Gehrisch led the team with four tackles and six Foresters, including Miller and Heim, finished with three.Ā
Lake Forest's offense was led by fifth-year wide receiver A.J.Jackson, junior wideout
Trevor Land, and junior running back
Mal Chunn. Jackson caught 10 passes for 67 yards while two of Land's five grabs went for touchdowns and he finished with 77 receiving yards. Chunn rushed for a game-high 57 yards and a score on just nine carries.
Junior
Joshua Gasca made his first career start at quarterback and completed 19 of 27 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman
Michael Kasemervisz came on in relief and was 7-for-10 for 79 yards and another score.
Junior tailbacks Jayce Knudsen and
Josiah Kidd each ran for a touchdown and junior wide receiver
Langston MetoyerĀ caught one.
Lake Forest is now 7-1 overall and 6-1 in league play. Beloit fell to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Foresters will travel to Monmouth College next Saturday to take on one of the other two teams with 6-1 MWC records so far this fall.
