Foresters Score Overtime Triumph at Trine

Box Score

A goal by senior defenseman Olyvia Opsahl with 2:02 remaining in overtime gave the Lake Forest College women's hockey team a 3-2 victory at Trine University Friday night.

Opsahl fired a shot from the top of the left circle that was wide of the net but caromed back to the area just right of the crease. She chased it down, avoided a defenseman, and lifted it past the goalie from close range for her third score this season and third career game-winner.

Junior forward Marissa Gebauer, who assisted Opsahl's goal, gave the Foresters the early lead just 92 seconds into the contest. Her team-high 11th goal this year was set up by junior forward Iman Shepard and sophomore forward Caitlyn Dahut.

Trine tied the score three minutes later but Lake Forest regained the lead at the 13:34 mark on senior defenseman Megan Truman's second score of the season. Senior forward Rose Sperry and sophomore defenseman Danielle Selby earned assists on the play.

After a scoreless second stanza, the home team tied the score again on a power play goal with 6:35 to play in regulation.

Junior goaltender Hannah Turnage turned away 24 of 26 shots on goal while the Foresters racked up 42 shots on the evening.

The overtime victory gave Lake Forest two points in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings while the Thunder earned one. The Foresters improved to 10-9-0 overall and 10-3-0 in NCHA play while Trine fell to 5-14-1 overall and 2-8-1 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again at Trine Saturday afternoon at 2:00 (ET).
