Lake Forest Unable to Avoid Sweep by River Falls

Box Score

The Forester women's hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at home on Sunday.

The Falcons' first goal of the contest came at the 6:03 mark of the second period and ended a streak of 28 consecutive successful penalty kills for Lake Forest. The visitors added a shorthanded score less than four minutes later and took a 3-0 lead at the 12:31 mark.

The Foresters broke through with a shorthanded goal of their own with 5:52 to play in the second. Junior forwards Marissa Gebauer and Samantha Shoebottom combined for the score with Gebauer collecting the rebound off a saved shot by Shoebottom and sending it back around the goalie and into the net.

The Falcons, however, regained their three-goal advantage a minute later and tacked on another shorthanded goal in the third.

Lake Forest junior goaltender Hannah Turnage, who made a career-high 45 saves in Saturday night's loss to River Falls, finished with 43 on Sunday.

The Foresters will be at home again next weekend, taking on Gustavus Adolphus College Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
