Lake Forest Blanks St. Scholastica, Climbs into Tie for Second Place in NCHA

The home team celebrated five times and sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers matched a program record with her sixth shutout of the season Friday night in the Forester women's hockey team's 5-0 triumph over visiting College of St. Scholastica.

Rogers needed to make just two saves in the opening period and five in each of the next two for her 10th career shutout. She improved to 10-4-0 with a .927 save percentage on the year.

Freshman defenseman Jordan Trapp started the scoring at the 12:22 mark of the first period with her fifth goal in the last five games and eighth this season. The power play goal was set up by sophomore forward Sydney Simone and freshman forward Annie Dalton.

The Foresters doubled their lead just 92 seconds later on freshman forward Megan Lyke's 12th score of the year. Sophomore defenseman Amanda Boisjolie and junior forward Amy Budde assisted on the play and the home team went into the locker room at the first intermission ahead 2-0.

Simone lit the lamp for the ninth time thiss season at the 7:13 mark of the second period with assists credited to sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher and freshman forward Kristina Bellomo.

Lake Forest was 2-for-3 on the power play on the night with the second tally coming from senior forward Olivia Spellmire at 11:07 in the second. Spellmire was assisted by sophomore forwards Lexi Morgan and Maddie Davis, giving the Foresters 11 skaters (out of 14) with at least one point in the contest.

The Foresters took three penalties, including two separated by just 67 seconds, late in the second period but were able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard.

Leading 4-0 with 20 minutes to play, the home team tacked on one more insurance goal at 16:14 in the third. It was the second score of the night and 17th this season for Spellmire, who is now tied-for-fifth in program history with 48 goals in her career. Davis and Unterseher each recorded her second assist of the evening on the play.

The Foresters outshot their guests 43-12 on the night.

Lake Forest is now 16-8-0 overall and 14-3-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this season while St. Scholastica fell to 15-5-4 overall and 13-2-2 in the league. The Foresters and Saints are tied for second place in the league standings with 28 points and will face off again in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
