Foresters Tie Team Scoring Record in Shutout of Finlandia

Box Score

Sophomore forward Lexi Morgan became just the sixth player in program history to score four goals in a game as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated Finlandia University 14-0 Friday night.

Morgan, who turned in her first career two-goal game two weeks ago, doubled that total Friday night and added an assist to finish with five points, one shy of the team record. She scored at the 5:08 mark of the first period and at 7:23 in the second. Morgan completed the hat trick at 11:26 in the second period and tacked on her eighth goal of the year just 16 seconds into the third.

While Morgan was posting her first career hat trick, senior forward Olivia Spellmire turned in her third in a row. Spellmire started the scoring just 61 seconds into the contest and scored her fifth career short-handed goal with 1:36 remaining before the first intermission. She completed the hat trick 33 seconds after Morgan accomplished the feat and leads the team with nine scores this season.

Sophomore defenseman Amanda Boisjolie and freshman forward Megan Lyke each scored twice in the contest. They were the first two goals of the year for Boisjolie, who was on the ice for seven of Friday night's scores, and Lyke now has three tallies this season. Sophomore defenseman Julia Unterseher, who matched Boisjolie's +7, netted her second goal of 2017-18, sophomore forward Sydney Simone her fourth, and junior forward Amy Budde her seventh. Simone and senior defenseman Kayla Griffith each set up three scores while Budde and sophomore forward Kate Fanning had two assists apiece.

Senior goaltender Jacquie Audet made 15 saves to earn her first victory of the season and her third career shutout.

Lake Forest's goal total matched the program record set in the 2005-06 season opener against Chatham College, current head coach Carisa Wahlig's first game behind the Forester bench. The team's 30 points on the night are the third-highest output in team annals, trailing only the 34 recorded against Chatham in 2005 and the 31 registered by the team in a 13-2 triumph at Aurora University last Saturday.

The Foresters improved to 4-3-0 overall this season and 4-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Finlandia fell to 1-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the league. The teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
