Foresters Rout Aurora Again

Box Score

Sophomore goaltender Jacque Rogers needed to make just one save in each period to earn her sixth career shutout as the Lake Forest College women's hockey team recorded a 10-0 victory at Aurora University on Sunday.

Rogers is now 2-1-0 with a .947 save percentage and 0.82 goals against average this year. Her career shutout total ranks third in program history.

After posting her second career hat trick in a 13-2 Forester win at Aurora the day before, senior forward Olivia Spellmire scored three times again on Sunday. She had a goal in each period and added an assist on the first goal of the contest.

Freshman forward Kristina Bellomo started the scoring at the 9:43 mark of the opening period and that score turned out to be the official game-winner. Spellmire then doubled the visitors' lead with 44 seconds on the clock with freshman forward Annie Dalton assisting.

Bellomo struck for the second time on the afternoon just 1:55 into the second period. Her third score of the season was set up by Sydney Simone, who also assisted on the first goal of the year by senior forward Amanda Brunges just 70 seconds later. Spellmire converted a power play opportunity at the 6:22 mark and freshman forward/defenseman Jordan Trapp did the same at 15:23. Sophomore forward Maddie Davis assisted Spellmire and Trapp was set up by Simone and junior forward Amy Budde.

The third period scoring started with a short-handed goal by sophomore forward Lexi Morgan after just 31 seconds of play. Morgan's fourth score of the season was assisted by freshman forward Megan Lyke and sophomore forward Amanda Boisjolie. Davis then lit the lamp for the third time this year 27 seconds later and Bellomo earned her first career assist on the play. Spellmire's sixth goal of 2017-18 completed her hat trick at 10:27. She was assisted by Brunges and Boisjolie. Brunges closed out the scoring with her second score of the game at 18:01. Trapp had the assist, making her the seventh Forester with multiple points in the contest.

The lopsided victory evened Lake Forest's overall recod at 3-3-0 and the team is now 3-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Aurora fell to 0-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.

The Foresters will host a pair of games against Finlandia University next weekend. The teams will face off Friday night at 7:00 and at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
