Lake Forest Continues Success against Finlandia

Senior forward Allie Girard recorded her first career hat trick and finished off an eight-point weekend in the Forester women's hockey team's 9-1 victory over Finlandia University at home on Saturday.

Girard's first goal was a power play score that gave the home team a 3-0 lead at the 6:28 mark of the second period. She scored again with 4:12 remaining in the period to make the score 5-1 and closed out the scoring with another power play goal with 9:11 to play in the contest. Girard, who had a goal and three assists in a 10-1 triumph over the Lions on Friday, also had an assist early in the third period to complete the weekend with eight points. She now has six goals on the season.

Forester sophomore forward Amy Budde scored a goal early in the second and third periods and assisted on three scores to become just the ninth player in program history with at least five points in a game. Budde leads the team with 11 goals on the year.

After assisting on two scores on Friday, freshman defenseman Amanda Boisjolie scored the first two goals of her collegiate career on Saturday, including a power play score in the third period. Freshman forward Lexi Morgan actually started the scoring barrage 30 seconds into the second period and now has four goals this season. Junior forward Olivia Spellmire scored the home team's other goal, a short-handed score late in the second period. It was her ninth goal of 2016-17 and she became the first player in the nation with three power play scores on the season.

Lake Forest had a 58-12 advantage in shots on goal in the contest and out-shot the Lions by a 19-1 margin in the final 20 minutes.

Forester freshman goaltender Jacque made 11 saves and improved to 4-1-0 on the year.

The victory improved Lake Forest's overall record this season to 10-2-0 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 6-1-0. Finlandia remained winless after 11 games, including eight conference contests.

The Foresters will not play again until traveling to Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota, for a weekend series January 6-7.
