Foresters Post Third Straight 5-1 Victory

Box Score

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team hosted and defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 5-1 Friday night in the first game of the teams' inaugural "Border Battle." Forester senior forward Emily Wybo scored the game's first and last goals.

Wybo gave the home team the lead in the opening period with just 20 seconds on the clock. She was assisted by junior defenseman Alex Stensland and senior defenseman Torey Crown.

The official game-winning goal was scored by senior forward Laura Reckdenwald at the 13:22 mark in the second period on the power play. Her third score this season was set up by Stensland and senior forward Morgan Pope.

The Foresters' next two goals were scored just 13 seconds apart. Senior forward Marissa Weber lit the lamp for the first time this season at the 17:29 mark of the second period and freshman forward Amanda Brunges added her second of the year at 17:42. Junior forward Holly Lesperance assisted on both scores and Brunges was also credited with an assist on Weber's goal.

Concordia Wisconsin finally got on the scoreboard at the 6:01 mark of the third period. It was the only goal allowed by Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Casey Hartfiel, who finished the night with 26 saves, including 13 in the final 20 minutes.

Wybo netted her second goal of the game and team-high-tying fourth this season with 7:28 to play in the contest. Reckdenwald assisted on the play.

Lake Forest is now 3-2-0 overall and in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Falcons fell to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again Saturday night in Mequon, Wisconsin. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a Forester win or tie will clinch the inaugural Border Cup for Lake Forest. A Concordia Wisconsin victory would force a shootout after the game to decide which team takes the cup.
