Foresters Blank Plymouth State in Codfish Bowl Semifinals

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated Plymouth State University 5-0 on Thursday in the semifinals of the Codfish Bowl at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Forester senior Jenn Caldwell scored her first goal of the season in the victory.

Caldwell's goal made the score 2-0 at the 4:21 mark of the opening period and was assisted by sophomore Laura Reckdenwald. Freshman Michelle Greeneway had started the scoring just 59 seconds earlier. Fellow freshmen Melissa Paluch and Marina Alessi assisted on the official game-winning score. Sophomore Emily Wybo netted the third and final goal of the opening period with 2:21 on the clock. Her second score of the season was assisted by classmate Morgan Pope and freshman Logan Taylor.

Lake Forest outshot Plymouth State 26-7 in the game's first 20 minutes, 18-6 in a scoreless second stanza, and 25-3 in the third period.

After recording her first career point on an assist in the first period, Alessi set up another goal at the 11:01 mark of the third. Greeneway also assisted on the goal by Paluch, who took over the team lead with her fifth goal of the season. Paluch returned the favor by assisting Greeneway on her fifth score of the year at 13:31.

It was the season debut for Forester junior goaltender Stacey Dierking, who stopped all 16 shots on goal she faced in the game's first 53:31. Classmate Auriana Johnson preserved the shutout over the final six-and-a-half minutes.

Lake Forest is now 4-2-4 this season and will face UMass Moston in the Codfish Bowl Championship Game at 4:00 (EST) Friday afternoon. Plymouth State fell to 2-8-0 on the year.
