Foresters Pull Away at St. Scholastica for Program Record Eighth Straight Win

Box Score

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team won its school record eighth consecutive game on Friday, a 4-1 decision at the College of St. Scholastica. Sophomore Emily Wybo assisted on two of the Foresters' goals and scored another.

The game was tied 1-1 going in the third period when Wybo and junior Sarah Gilbride set up sophomore Morgan Pope for a power play goal at 10:57. The score was Pope's second game-winner and fourth goal overall this season. Wybo then assisted freshman Melissa Paluch on an empty net goal with 25 seconds remaining before scoring an empty-netter of her own with just one second on the clock. It was her sixth goal of the year.

The Foresters' first goal of the game was scored by freshman Michelle Greeneway and broke a scoreless tie at the 10:47 mark of the second period. Senior Jenn Caldwell assisted on the score.

St. Scholastica tied the game one minute and 26 seconds into the third period. It was the only goal allowed by Lake Forest junior goaltender Stacey Dierking, who made 26 saves in the game and continues to lead the nation with a 0.87 goals against average and .962 save percentage.

The goals by Greeneway and Paluch were the team-high 11th of the season for each player. Paluch also leads the squad with 11 assists and 22 points while Greeneway is second with nine assists and 20 points.

While the eight-game winning streak is a team record, it's actually just tied for the fourth-longest unbeaten streak with a 5-0-3 run to begin the 2006-07 season. The Foresters also went 7-0-2 in 2005-06 and had a pair of 8-0-2 runs during the 2009-10 season.

The 2012-13 Foresters are now 10-2-4 overall and climbed into a tie for second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with 18 points and a 7-1-4 league record. The Saints fell to 9-6-3 overall and 6-5-2 in the league.

The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
