Foresters' 2011-12 Season Starts with a Tie

Box Score

The Lake Forest College women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with visiting St. Mary's University on Friday in the season opener for both teams. The final goal of the game was the first in the career of Forester freshman Laura Reckdenwald.

The Foresters struck first with the only goal of the opening period. Sophomore Maeve Connelly found the back of the net at 7:16 with senior Kim Herring picking up an assist.

St. Mary's evened the score on a power play goal at 9:40 in the second period and took the lead at 15:05.

The home team was short-handed at 17:35 when Reckdenwald lit the lamp. The score was unassisted and turned out to be the official game-tying goal.

The Cardinals out-shot the Foresters 10-7 in the first period but Lake Forest had a 7-6 edge in the second, a 10-7 advantage in the third and had three of the 5-minute overtime period's four shots on goal.

Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Stacey Dierking tallied 22 saves in the contest.

The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.
