Lake Forest Wins Team Record 15th Game to Finish Off Sweep of Eau Claire

The Forester women's hockey team defeated UW-Eau Claire 7-4 on Sunday (January 31) to complete a weekend sweep of the visiting Blugolds. It was Lake Forest's program record 15th victory of the season against just two losses and two ties. The team is also in first place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a league mark of 9-1-2. Eau Claire fell to 9-7-3 overall and 4-4-2 in conference play.

A Blugold shorthanded goal at the 9:47 mark of the opening period gave the visitors the early lead. Forester junior Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) tied the game at the 12:01 mark with sophomore Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School) earning the assist. Lake Forest took the lead on sophomore Jessica Dare's (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Belle Tire) 11th goal of the season at 16:26. She was assisted by senior Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois). The Foresters out-shot Eau Claire 9-4 in the first period and led 2-1 when it was over.

Lake Forest freshman Rosy Fujimoto (Wasilla, Alaska/Team Alaska) lit the lamp for the seventh time this season at the 9:33 mark of the second period. She was assisted by senior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.). Eau Claire pulled to within a goal at 11:09 but an unassisted goal by Bean at 18:05 made the score 4-2 in favor of the Foresters going into the third period. Both teams put eight shots on goal in the second.

The teams combined for five goals in the final 20 minutes, beginning with a power play score by the Blugolds at 3:30. The Foresters were ahead by two again after Bean's power play goal at 6:20. Herring and sophomore Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) assisted on Bean's seventh goal of the year. Sophomore Mira Trebilcock (South Porcupine, Ontario/Trinity College School) tacked on an unassisted goal, her fourth score of the season, a minute-and-a-half later but another power play goal by the visitors at 15:50 made the score 6-4. Eau Claire pulled its goalie with 1:35 to play in the game and Switaj hit the empty net 22 seconds later to clinch the victory. Freshman Denise Perez (San Jose, Calif./Minnesota Thoroughbreds) assisted on Switaj's eighth goal of 2009-10. Lake Forest out-shot Eau Claire 15-4 in the final period.

Forester junior goaltender Brittany Lemke (St. Charles, Ill./St. Mary's University) earned the victory, raising her record on the season to 7-1-0.

Lake Forest will resume NCHA play in two weekends (February 12-13) against UW-River Falls. The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and 2:00 Saturday afternoon. Live radio broadcasts of both games will be available at wmxm.org.
