The Lake Forest College women's hockey team, ranked 10th in the
nation, won 3-2 in overtime at Adrian College Saturday night
(January 16). The Foresters are now 11-1-2 overall this season and
5-0-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Bulldogs
fell to 6-9-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the league.
Adrian scored the first goal of the contest on the power play with
just four seconds remaining in the opening period. The Bulldogs
doubled their advantage on another power play score at the 5:32
mark of the second period and led 2-0 going into the final 20
minutes of regulation.
Senior Courtney
Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) pulled the Foresters to
within a goal on a power play score 30 seconds into the third
period. She was assisted by sophomore Molly
Wallner (Chatham, Ill./Chicago Young Americans) and juniro Melissa
Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College). Bean
converted another power play opportunity to tie the score at the
10:15 mark. Her fourth goal of the season was assisted by sophomore
Kim
Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School).
Bean finished off her third career three-point game by assisting
Herring on the game winner two minutes and 52 seconds into
overtime. It was Herring's 21st goal of the season and her second
in overtime periods. She matched the team record with her 31st
point of 2009-10 and is just one shy of the program's single-season
mark for goals.
Lake Forest was out-shot 7-6 in the first period and 13-5 in the
second. The Foresters then had a 17-3 edge in that category in the
third and a 3-1 advantage in overtime. Junior goaltender Alyssa
Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) tallied 22
saves in the contest and is now 7-0-2 on the year with a 2.08 goals
against average and .915 save percentage.
The same two teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00
(EST). Live stats will be available
