The Lake Forest College women's hockey team prevailed 2-1
at UW-Superior, the nation's 10th-ranked team, Friday night
(November 6). The Foresters are now 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in
Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play on the season. It was
the Yellowjackets' season opener.
Both teams put six shots on goal during a scoreless opening
period.
All three of the game's goals were scored during the second period,
beginning with a shorthanded goal by Superior at 5:33. The
Foresters tied the score at 9:12 when freshman Chelsea Thompson
(Anchorage, Alaska/Team Alaska) and junior Melissa Kravich
(Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) assisted sophomore Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School). Kravich then scored what
turned out to be the game-winner with just 36 seconds remaining in
the period. Junior Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames)
assisted on Herring's fourth score of the season.
Forester junior goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St.
Thomas Panthers) stopped seven of eight shots on goal in the second
period and all three she faced in the third to earn the victory,
raise her save percentage to .894, and lower her goals against
average to 1.67.
The same two teams will face off again Saturday afternoon (November
7) at noon. A live video webcast of the contest will be available
