The Lake Forest College softball team posted a pair of five-inning victories over Knox College on Saturday, taking the opener 11-3 and game two 18-1.
Senior pitcher
Morgan Traxinger earned the victory in both games, allowing just one run on six hits in nine innings of work on the day. She struck out two and walked two in the two games combined.
The Foresters scored three runs in the first innings, one in the third, and seven in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead in the opener. The Prairie Fire plated three in the top of the fifth but were unable to extend the game.
Senior right fielder
Emmie Nyen belted a home run to right field in the third inning and senior left fielder
Brooke Swiecki cleared the left field fence in the fourth. Senior shortstop
Kaia Mismash also homered in the fourth on a hard ground ball down the right field line. She raced around the bases and beat the throw home.
Junior second baseman
Lia Taglia became just the third player in program history to steal as many as four bases in a game while junior
Jolie Devalk swiped three. Devalk was also one of two Foresters with two hits in the game and sophomore center fielder
Vanessa Buske doubled twice to join her.
After stealing eight bases in game one, Lake Forest had 10 in the first inning of game two. Taglia accounted for four of them, taking second, third, and home after an RBI single and swiping second again after her second hit of the frame. Mismash and senior catcher
Kyla Chevalier stole two bases apiece and three other Foresters each had one.
Mismash and freshman first baseman
Natalie Booth joined Taglia with two-hit performances and the team's only home run of the contest came from freshman second baseman
Maddie Cole and was the first of her collegiate career.
Also of note on Saturday was Swiecki being presented with the program's
Mia Gurevitz Award between games.
Lake Forest improved to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in Midwest Conference play this season while Knox fell to 5-15 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The Foresters will be in action again on Sunday against Illinois College. The doubleheader on Mohr Field will begin at 1:00 p.m.
