The Lake Forest softball team continued play at the IWU Invite in Bloomington, Ill., on Sunday with a doubleheader against the tournament hosts, Illinois Wesleyan.

The Foresters (8-8) finished the event 1-3 overall after dropping its pair of games against the Titans on Sunday; Lake Forest lost the first game 8-7, followed by a 11-0 defeat in game two.

Game 1: Illinois Wesleyan 8, Lake Forest 7
Despite a spirited comeback, Lake Forest could not pull off the come-from-behind victory and dropped the game, 8-7.

Junior
Riley Stiles (5-1) took her first loss of the season after earning the win in each of her first five appearances of the season. She completed 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing eight runs (five earned), while walking two batters and striking out one.

The Foresters took a quick lead in the top of the first behind the bat of slugger
Kyla Chevalier. The junior lined an RBI single to left field to bring home
Kelly Collins and give Lake Forest the 1-0 lead.

Illinois Wesleyan scored eight runs over the next three innings before Lake Forest put together a huge fourth inning to get back into the game.

The first three Foresters to the plate all drew walks to get the inning started.
Paige Ratliff scored on a wild pitch, then
Jolie Devalk scored on a
Kaia Mismash bunt single to cut into the deficit.

Emmie Nyen launched her team-high fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot with two outs in the frame to bring Lake Forest to within 8-6. Senior
Cheyenne Pellettiere brought the Foresters to within one with an RBI single to score Chevalier and cap the six-run fourth inning.

The Foresters offense was quiet from there, as neither team scored in the final three innings.

Game 2: Illinois Wesleyan 11, Lake Forest 0
After scoring 24 runs in the first three games of the IWU Invite, the Foresters' bats ran out of steam in game two, as Lake Forest fell 11-0.

Hannah Smith (1-3) battled in the circle for Lake Forest but took the loss. The senior allowed just one run in her first three innings of work, but a four-run fourth inning for Illinois Wesleyan did the damage to give them a 5-0 lead. Smith finished with 3 1/3 innings pitched, allowing four hits and five runs.

The Titans added on a pair of runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth inning to extend the lead.

The Foresters did not record any hits in the 6-inning game.

Lake Forest will return to action at Mohr Field on Wednesday with a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The first pitch of game one will be at 2 p.m.
