The Lake Forest softball team wasted no time in its 2025 campaign to get on a roll offensively by totaling 24 runs and 28 hits in a pair of victories Monday in The Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
The Foresters (2-0) opened with a 6-2 win over Montclair State University in their season opener and followed that up with a dominant 18-3 victory in the afternoon over Alfred University.
Lake Forest 6, Montclair State 2
The Foresters pounced on their first opportunity offensively in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter
Kaia Mismash singled and quickly stole second base to put herself in scoring position. After a
Cadence Dempsey single, Mismash came home to score on a
Kyla Chevalier RBI groundout.
Mismash with 3-for-3 at the plate for the game, and her speed on the basepaths put pressure on Monclair State. Right fielder
Emmie Nyen was the other Forester with multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Nyen doubled the Foresters' first-inning lead with a two-out RBI double.
Senior
Hannah Smith controlled the game from in the circle for the Foresters. She fired 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out eight to earn the win.
The junior Chevalier picked up right where she left off last season on Monday. After setting the Lake Forest school record for home runs, RBI, and total bases last year, the Valparaiso, Ind., native hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to extend the Foresters lead to 6-0 and give her three RBI for the game.
Lake Forest 18, Alfred 3
The Foresters offense would not be stopped, as Lake Forest cruised to beat Alfred University, 18-3, in five innings.
Despite a Dempsey home run in the top half of the inning, Lake Forest starter
Brooke Challe was tagged for three runs in the bottom of the first. After the first inning, however, the senior would settle in and not allow another run in her next three innings of work.
The Foresters' offense was relentless, as every spot in the lineup posed a threat during each at-bat. Lake Forest scored eight runs in the second inning, four runs in the third, and put five more runs on the board in the fifth inning.
Seven different Foresters contributed at least two RBI, as Chevalier led the squad with three runs batted in.
Lake Forest will return to action in The Spring Games on Tuesday, as the Foresters will face Penn State Brandywine at 11:30 am (CT) and take on Penn State Behrend at 4 p.m.
