The Lake Forest College softball team blanked the University of Northwestern 4-0 before routing The College of Wooster 14-3 in five innings in Clermont, Florida, on Tuesday.
The Foresters' first victory of the day was the first career shutout for sophomore pitcher
Kayla Collins. The only hit she allowed was a fourth inning double and she faced just 23 batters in the game. Collins is now 3-0 and has yet to allow an earned run in 17 innings this season.
Junior first baseman
Kelly Collins tripled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and came home with the first run of the game on a single to center by sophomore
Kyla Chevalier.
With a runner on second, freshman center fielder's bunt single in the bottom of the fifth induced a wild throw to make the score 2-0. She then stole third and came home on a wild pitch. Mismash and
Kelly Collins each had two of the Foresters' eight base hits in the contest.
Senior catcher
Angelle Bills singled in the final run of the game in the sixth.
Lake Forest started fast in the victory over Wooster. A two-run home run by Chevalier in the top of the first put the Foresters on top and they added six runs in the second.
Kelly Collins and Chevalier drew bases-loaded walks and sophomore left fielder Brooke Swiecke followed with a sacrifice fly. Two batters later senior
Teagan Delarwelle belted a three-run double to make the score 8-0.
After Wooster plated two in the bottom of the second and one more in the third to make the score 8-3, Lake Forest put the game out of reach with five in the top of the fourth. Delarwelle singled in the first two, giving her a career-high five runs batted in. Sophomore outfielder
Emmie Nyen's bunt single brought home another run and two more scored on a wild throw on the same play.
Freshman
Makayla Tarasiewicz doubled in the final run of the contest in the top of the fifth.
Junior pitchers
Hannah Smith and
Brooke Challe combined to allow just three base hits in the five-inning game.
Lake Forest is now 4-2 on the season while Northwestern fell to 5-6 and Wooster to 4-4.
After a day off from games, the Foresters will take on Skidmore College and Hamline University on Thursday.
