The Lake Forest College swimming and diving team closed out the fall semester at the Carthage Classic over the weekend and had several notable performances, including nine individual victories.
Four of the wins came from
Isabella Rozenbergas, who finished first in both individual medleys and both butterfly events. The freshman posted NCAA B-cuts and set school and Midwest Conference records in both of her events on Friday. Her 2:05.69 in the 200-IM prelims was slightly better than what she posted while winning the final while her 100-butterfly time of 55.60 that evening is a new pool record and faster than the final time invited to last year's NCAA Division III Championships. Rozenbergas also prevailed in the 400-IM (4:32.15) and 200-butterfly (2:10.53) on Saturday with times that rank her third and fifth in program history, respectively.
Forester senior
Noah McAdam took both backstroke events at the meet, winning the 200 on Friday in 1:53.14 and breaking his own school record in Saturday's 100 with a time of 50.61 seconds.
Freshman
Matthew Strada also posted a pair of victories, taking Thursday night's 1650-freestyle in 16:15.75 and Friday's 500-freestyle in 4:43.54. He was also the runner-up in the 200-IM (1:56.70) and 400-IM (4:11.21). Strada now ranks fourth in program history in the 1650-freestyle.
McAdam and Strada also contributed to a second-place finish in Thursday night's 800-freestyle relay, where they were joined by senior
Ben Jacob and junior
Demetri Zemenides. Their time of 6:57.75 ranks them second in team history.
Strada's 1650-freestyle triumph was not the only one in that event for Lake Forest as junior
Amelie Andres took the women's race in 18:02.60. She was also third in Friday's 500-freestyle in 5:16.67.Â
Sophomore
Gavin Biccum was the runner-up to Strada in the 1650-freestyle and 500-freestyle with times of 16:50.02 and 4:47.22. An additional second-place finish was turned in by sophomore
Audrey Kilmer in the 400-IM (4:36.23) and she was third in the 200-IM (2:10.31), 200-backstroke (2:10.67), and 200-butterfly (2:11.59).
Additional third-place performances were turned in by sophomore
Cameron Schlosser in the men's 100-butterfly (52.32) and freshman
Joss Hoffman in the women's 100-backstroke (1:00.27).
The Forester women's 800-freestyle, 400-medley, 200-medley, and 400-freestyle relay teams finished among the top three in the meet. Rozenbergas swam on three of them while Kilmer, Hoffman, freshman
Alexa Taylor, junior
Valeria Welk, and senior
Sylvie Paddon-Jones were each on two. Andres, senior
Michelle Paddon-Jones, and sophomore
Izabella Harju complete the list of athletes on top-three relays.
The Carthage men placed first as a team with 1,279 points while Lake Forest was second with 843 and St. Norbert College third with 776.5. The Forester women finished with 776.5 points, trailing St. Norbert (1,058), Carthage (986.5), and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (800.5).
Lake Forest's first competition of the spring semester will be a dual meet at Wheaton College on January 18.
