Lake Forest College cross country runner Jonathan Stern was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday after winning the Forester Invitational last Friday.
Stern, a senior, placed first out of 57 runners in the race with an 8-kilometer time of 26:44.4. He crossed the finish line nearly 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up to lead the Foresters to a victory in the five-team event.
It was the second career victory at an invitational for Stern, who also finished first at the Lamb-Kohawk Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in October of 2015. His time on Friday was just two seconds away from cracking the top 25 in program history, a list that already includes 10 of his performances from the last three years.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information. Stern also earned the honor following his victory during the 2015 season.
