Lake Forest College tennis player Chase Garber was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after earning the clinching point in last Saturday's triumph of Cornell College.
Garber and sophomore Aidan Burke posted an 8-3 win over the Rams' #2 doubles team earlier in the contest. He also took the opening set 7-5 at #4 singles before dropping the second in a tiebreaker. By early in the third set the teams were tied 4-4 and he and his opponent were the only players on the court. The junior came out on top 6-4 to give the Foresters the victory in their first Midwest Conference match of the season.
Lake Forest also went on to defeat Knox College later in the day with Garber and Burke prevailing 8-5 at the top of the doubles lineup.
The Foresters fell 9-0 to Grinnell College on Sunday and are now tied-for-third in the MWC standings at 2-1 in the league.
Garber is 5-2 in singles and 5-4 in doubles this year.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
