Senior Ricky Schmidt was just two shots over par in Saturday's second and final round of Millikin University's Take Back the Night Challenge.
Schmidt fired a 73 on the 6,375-yard par-71 course at South Side Country Club in Decatur, Illinois. He moved up 21 places in the standings, finishing in a tie for 16th place in the 104-player field. Schmidt needed 81 shots to complete Friday's opening round at the 7,057-yard par-72 course at Red Tail Run Golf Course, which is also located in Decatur.
The Foresters' other four players also posted lower scores on Saturday than in round one. Senior Jordan Mandel went from 80 to 79 to finish tied-for-41st and junior Jacob Krugman followed up an 84 with a 78 to tie for 56th place. Senior Elijah Collins improved from 83 to 81 and junior Austin Aksoy recovered from a 97 to shoot an 84 in round two.
Lake Forest's 311 on Saturday was 17 strokes lower than the team's score on Friday. The Foresters' 639 for the weekend tied for 11th place out of 19 teams at the tournament, which was won by Illinois Wesleyan University at 589.
The next event on Lake Forest's schedule is the Carthage College Spring Invitational on Tuesday. Play at Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wisconsin, is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
