The Midwest Conference announced its end-of-season awards for men's soccer on Thursday and Lake Forest College was well-represented on the list of honorees.
Junior midfielder
Peter Cirbo, who leads the league with 11 goals, 10 assists, and 32 points in all games this season, was named MWC Offensive Player of the Year. He has had at least one point in 14 of 20 games and scored three goals to help Lake Forest come out on top in last weekend's MWC Tournament. Cirbo was also a First Team All-MWC selection for the second straight season after earning second team honors as a freshman in 2023.
The Foresters also boasted the MWC Defensive Player of the Year in senior defender
Alexis Flores. The team has posted shutouts in 13 of the 17 games in which he has played, including five of six league tilts and both contests last weekend that secured Lake Forest's third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. He has now been named to the league's first team each of the last three seasons.
The major awards bestowed on the Foresters also included MWC Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Head Coach
Dan Andrews, Association Head Coach
Kyle Jones, and Goalkeeping Coach
Sean Avila were voted the best among their league peers after leading the team to a 15-game winning streak to open the season, a 19-1-0 overall record entering Saturday's opening round of the NCAA Tournament, a perfect 8-0-0 mark in conference play, and an MWC Tournament title.
Joining Cirbo and Flores in earning First Team All-MWC accolades on Thursday were two defenders in senior
Christian Karabetsos and sophomore
Sam Satisky. Karabetsos has started every game and been on the field for all but 70 minutes of action this fall. After missing the season opener, Satisky has appeared in every game and started the last 16. Forester opponents have scored a total of just nine goals in 20 contests while Karabetsos and Satisky have combined for seven, including four game-winners.
In addition to the four First Team All-MWC selections, Lake Forest had four players named to the second team in junior forward
Nathan Kostovetsky, senior midfielder
Gio Diaz, junior midfielder
Gustavo Machado, and junior goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha. Kostovetsky is second on the team with eight goals and 20 points while Diaz and Machado have combined for 18 points on seven goals and four assists. Kostovetsky and Diaz also earned second team statis last fall while Swacha, who is 3-0-0 with a 0.86 goals against average this year, was a first team honoree.
The Foresters' eight all-conference players matches the program record set just one season ago, when the team also had four first team and four second team selections.
