Four Forester teams are in action during the first week of 2019.
The women's basketball team will be the first to compete when the Foresters resume Midwest Conference play at Beloit College on Wednesday. Lake Forest are coming off a pair of defeats at the Hoop N Surf Classic in Hawaii January 20-21 and are now 4-7 overall this season. The Foresters have won three of four league games, however, and will take on a Beloit team that is 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference. They will then return home to face Knox College (7-5, 4-1 MWC) on Saturday in a match-up of two of the top five teams in this year's preseason coaches poll. Lake Forest swept Beloit but lost twice to Knox in 2017-18.
The Forester men's basketball team will also take on Beloit Wednesday night and Knox on Saturday. Lake Forest is 6-5 on the season after falling twice at last weekend's D3 Desert Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona. The team is 2-2 in the MWC while Beloit enters the week 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the league and Knox has a 1-11 overall record and is without a victory in five conference contests. Lake Forest has swept both opponents each of the last three seasons.
The men's hockey team finished 2018 with a 3-2 loss to visiting Babson College and will start the new year with a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games on the road this weekend. The Foresters' overall record stands at 5-5-3 and they will put their 3-2-1 league record on the line at St. Norbert College (8-3-2, 4-2-0 NCHA), the sixth-ranked team in the nation, on Friday. They will then continue traveling north for a Saturday afternoon contest at Finlandia University (3-9-1, 1-4-1 NCHA). Lake Forest was defeated in its only meeting with St. Norbert a year ago and will be looking to extend an 11-game wiinning streak against Finlandia.
It will have been more than five weeks since the Forester swimmers' last meet when they compete at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California, on Sunday. The Foresters and Lions will race for the 10th consecutive year at Soka Aquatics Center, where several of the top swimmers in the country train.
