Freshman Morgan Pope scored her seventh goal of the season and goalie Stacey Dierking made 15 saves to lift the Lake Forest women's hockey team to a 1-0 win against St. Scholastica on Sunday.
Pope's goal, scored at 5:43 of the second period, came off a scramble in front of the net. Senior Jessica Dare assisted on the score for the Foresters (12-6-2, 11-4-1 NCHA).
Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 12-6 in the first period, 14-3 in the second, and 11-6 in the third. Dierking recorded her her first shutout of the season and the third of her career. She is now 6-3-2 with a 2.20 goals against average and .918 save percentage on the year.
The Foresters best chance to add another goal came in the third period when the Saints (11-6-4, 9-5-2 NCHA) were called for penalties just over a minute apart. Lake Forest, however, was unable to capitalize on the 5-on-3 advantage.
Lake Forest returns to action on Saturday, February 11, and Sunday, February 12, with home games against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Both contests are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
