Freshman Faith Jung was named Midwest Conference Newcomer of the Year and Tamlyn Tills the MWC Coach of the Year on Sunday as the Lake Forest College women's golf team placed third at the MWC Championships.
Jung was the Foresters' top finisher at the three-day event with a 54-hole score of 260, the second-best in program history. She tied for fifth out of 30 players on the 5,801-yard, par-73 course at Aldeen Golf Club. Jung's best round of the tournament was an 84 on Saturday. She finished in 87 strokes on Friday and 89 on Sunday.
Lake Forest sophomore Kautlyn Gray and freshman Amanda Lee joined Jung as All-MWC honorees, finishing eighth and tied-for-ninth, respecitvely. Gray's 263 and Lee's 265 rank just behind Jung in team history. Lee posted the team's best round of the tournament with an 83 on Saturday while Gray was tied with Jung at 84 in round two.
Grinnell won the championship and the Pioneers' three-day score of 986 was 65 shots better than runner-up St. Norbert College. Lake Forest finished third with 1,067 shots, Monmouth College fourth with 1,083, and Illinois College fifth with 1,098. Knox College had just two players at the event.
It was the final tournament of the fall for the Foresters, who will resume the 2017-18 season during Spring Break in March.
