The first of three rounds is complete and the Lake Forest College women's golf team is in fourth place at the 2016 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament. The event is being held at the 5,801-yard, par-73 Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois.
Senior Allie Girard was the Foresters' top player with an 84 in Friday's opening round. She recorded pars on half of the 18 holes and carded a 42 on both the front and back nines. Girard will enter round two in third place in the 36-player field but 10 shots behind the leader.
Sophomore Kalay Kotasek was second on the team and tied-for-14th overall with a score of 95 on Friday. Classmate Anhayte Guajardo and freshman Cece Cruz were tied-for-23rd at 98 while freshman Yuka Kawata's score of 107 ranks 33rd.
Grinnell College leads the event with an opening round score of 327, well ahead of the next four teams, which are still bunched together. St. Norbert College is in second place at 373, one shot ahead of Illinois College, two ahead of Lake Forest, and five clear of Monmouth College. Fontbonne University is in sixth place with a score of 398 and Knox College has just two players at the event.
Round two will begin at 10:00 Saturday morning and players will begin teeing off at the same time in round three on Sunday.
