Lake Forest College women's golfer Allie Girard was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her record-setting performance at the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic over the weekend.
Girard, a senior, posted the program's best round with a score of even-par 73 in the opening round of the event. She had six birdies on the day and she was three shots better than anyone else in the field. Her score was also five stroes lower than the previous school record she set in the fall of 2014. Girard carded an 80 in Sunday's second round to win the 96-player event with a team record two-day score of 153.
Girard has now finished in the 70s three times in 2016 and five times during her career. She is averaging 82.89 strokes in her nine rounds this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. She also earned the honor once during her sophomore year.
