Foresters Claim Three Titles at MWC Individual Tournaments

Sophomore Trevor Allen and freshman Nick Zazove captured singles titles on Saturday and senior Ellis Lora-Arceo teamed with Allen to claim a doubles championship on Sunday at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments this weekend.

Allen defeated the #2 singles player from Illinois College 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and the second-best from Monmouth College 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to reach the position's championship match. There he bested his counterpart from Cornell College for the second day in a row, this time 6-3 in the first set and 6-1 in the second. It was Allen's second #2 singles title in as many seasons.

Zazove did not drop a game in his quarterfinal victory against the #3 player from Illinois College but had to battle a little harder in the next two rounds. After prevailing 6-3, 6-4 against Cornell in the semifinals, he came out on top of a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 decision against Grinnell College in the final. Zazove had also defeated Grinnell's #2 in the team tournament on Friday.

Lora-Arceo and fellow senior Dragan Trivanovic were also victorious in the quarterfinals at #4 and #5, respectively, but fell in the semifinals to the brackets' top seeds. Junior Dan Pivonka was knocked off in the quarterfinals before winning in the consolation semifinals and final at #1, as did classmate Nick Rehm at #6.

Allen finished off an undefeated weekend with three straight wins at #2 doubles with Lora-Arceo. They defeated opponents from Illinois College 8-2 in the quarterfinals, Monmouth College 9-7 in the semifinals, and top-seeded Grinnell College 9-7 in the championship.

Pivonka and Zazove reached the semifinals at #1 while Trivanovic and Rehm were the consolation champs at #3.

It was the final competition of the season for the Foresters. Lora-Arceo and Trivanovic, the team's only seniors, finished their careers ranked sixth and seventh in program history, respectively, with 104 and 102 career victories in singles and doubles combined.
