There will be a dozen athletic events this weekend, including the final regular season home contests for four Forester seniors.
Five of those contests will occur on Friday, beginning with a the Forester track team's meet at Carthage College. The Tadd Metzger Invitational will include teams from a dozen different schools and is in its 18th year. Lake Forest did not attend the meet in 2018, the progrm's first season as a varsity sport.
The basketball teams will be on the road this weekend, competing at Illinois College on Friday and Knox College on Saturday. The Lake Forest women are 9-8 overall and tied for second place in the Midwest Conference at 8-2 in league play after defeating Monmouth College 67-59 at home on Saturday. The Foresters will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak against Illinois College, which enters the week 6-11 overall and 2-8 in the conference. Lake Forest posted an 83-57 victory over Knox (9-8, 6-4 MWC) three weeks ago and will attempt to complete the season sweep on Saturday.
The men's basketball team fell 87-83 to Monmouth on Saturday and is now 10-7 overall and in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MWC at 6-4 in the league. The Foresters swept the 2017-18 season series with Illinois College (4-13, 2-8 MWC) and has defeated Knox (1-16, 0-10) in seven straight meetings, including a 77-58 decision on January 5.
The Forester men's hockey team has won its last five games, including a 2-0 blanking of Marian University last Friday and a 4-1 triumph over Lawrence University on Saturday. Lake Forest is now 10-5-4 overall and atop the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings at 8-2-2 in the conference. The team will travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering (6-10-3, 4-6-2 NCHA) on Friday before hosting Concordia University Wisconsin (5-11-3, 3-7-2 NCHA) for Alumni Day on Saturday. In addition, the annual Peter Taylor Award presentation will be made at the first intermission of Saturday night's contest. The Foresters defeated MSOE 6-4 and Concordia Wisconsin 5-4 earlier this season.
The only team competing at home on Friday is women's hockey, which is coming off a scoreless tie and 5-1 victory against visiting St. Norbert College last weekend. Lake Forest is now 9-4-4 overall and in third place in the conference at 6-1-3 in NCHA play. The Foresters will host league-leading Adrian College (14-3-0, 10-0-0 NCHA) Friday night and Saturday afternoon looking to end a nine-game losing streak against the Bulldogs. Saturday's contest will be the final regular season home game for Amy Budde, the team's only senior.
Also celebrating Senior Day Saturday afternoon will be swimmers Blake Rhodes and Frederick Weichmann and diver Heath Ogawa when the Foresters host Illinois Institute of Technology. The teams split a close meet in Chicago last year with the Lake Forest women prevailing 106-101 and the men falling 108-91. The Forester men won and the women's teams tied when the Scarlet Hawks came to Lake Forest the year before.
After posting mixed results at the Illinois Handball Association State Singles Tournament in Des Plaines last weekend, the Foresters will continue their series of informal home competitions with the Women's Invitational Singles event this Saturday. Severall alumni and other local players are expected to attend.
The final athletic event of the weekend does not feature any Foresters but will be held on campus in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Lake Forest and the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association will host the annual "The Sleds are Coming" sled hockey event at 2:00 in the afternoon.
