Lake Forest College and GLASA to Host Award Winning Sled Hockey Event

The Lake Forest College Athletic Department and the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) are excited to host the 8th Annual "The Sleds Are Coming" event on Sunday, January 28th at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Lake Forest College. This event recently earned the Award of Merit by the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA). This award is intended to recognize the many contributions NCAA Division III student-athletes regularly make to their campuses and local communities. Click here to read more about this honor.

Owners of the Hot Shot Ice Arena, Becky and Jerry Klutchka and their three sons Tim, Matt and Russell (all local firefighters) are being recognized with the JJ O'Connor Award, an award given each year to someone who demonstrates good character, leadership, and sportsmanship – is devoted to serving as an ambassador in the community – and perseveres regardless of obstacles.

The event will take place at 2:00 p.m., admission is FREE and open to the public.

"The Sleds Are Coming" is intended to bring community exposure to GLASA and showcase its sled hockey program. Community members, students, and staff have the opportunity to watch and cheer on a talented group of athletes. Currently, GLASA together with its local community partner, Falcons Hockey Association, has one competitive adult team, one recreational adult team and one competitive youth team. The GLASA Falcons adult competitive team is coached by retired Lake Forest College men's hockey coach, Tony Fritz. The adult recreational team is coached by GLASA parent, Andy Burkhart and the youth competitive team is coached by Mike Reinhardt, Mike Hurtado, and Adam Rosuck. Since the beginning of this program ten years ago, the adult competitive team won the National Championship in 2017 and 2013 and the youth competitive team became the National Champions in 2015.

The on-ice competition will consist of three 12-minute periods of 5-on-5 sled hockey featuring members of the GLASA Falcons and the event will also feature:

- Demonstration by the Junior Falcons Mite Players sponsored by the Falcons Hockey Association (FHA)
- Chuck-A-Puck Competition
- Raffle Prizes
- Silent Auction that includes four alumni box seats to the Blackhawks vs. Senators game in February, a framed and autographed Corey Crawford jersey w/letter of authenticity, and an autographed Duncan Keith Jersey w/letter of authenticity
