The Lake Forest College athletic department takes great pride in helping student-athletes reach their full potential in not just the classroom and in competition, but also in the community. Students, coaches and staff alike contribute to the department’s proud “Tradition of Excellence” through their dedication to serving others on campus and in the surrounding communities.
On Thursday, April 20, Lake Forest College President Steve Schutt and Athletic Director Jackie Slaats hosted a dinner at Glen Rowan House to recognize this year’s “A-Team” honorees. The A-Team is comprised of student-athletes who received straight A’s in either the 2016 fall or 2016 spring semester.
On Saturday, March 25, 2017, faculty, staff, students, coaches, and community members gathered at the Sports and Recreation Center to cheer on Special Olympian swimmers from the Chicagoland area at the annual Area 13 Special Olympics Aquatic Meet. Races began at 9:00 a.m. and continued throughout the day until 4:00 p.m.
According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, the month of March is dedicated to acknowledging the work of Athletic Trainers. Lake Forest College is fortunate to have two athletic trainers on staff to provide treatment and support for all student-athletes at Lake Forest College throughout their career as Foresters: Michael Gilboe and Rosemarie Patrick.
On Saturday, February 11, 2017, Lake Forest College Director of Athletics and Senior Advisor to the President Jackie Slaats was recognized during halftime of the women’s basketball game against Cornell College for devoting 30 years of service to the College. Several alumni returned to campus to celebrate with her and you can too by clicking here to donate a small gift of $30 for every year she has made different at the College.
Heading into the 2016-17 season, senior captain Jack Lewis was not concerned with racking up the most points this season; instead he had other priorities—serving as a leader his teammates could look up to.
On Saturday, January 14, 2017, women's hockey player Allie Girard was named the recipient of the Ry McCarthy Award during an on-ice presentation between the first and second periods of a game against the College of St. Scholastica.
Blake Theisen is a staff member who can be seen at just about every athletic competition helping out in various capacities from equipment and facility setup to special event coordination and oversight of the Forester Athlete Network (F.A.N. Club).
Sophomore Elijah Collins, member on the men’s golf team, participated in the Burke Match Play Invitational in Ireland this past summer on August 23 through August 27. Collins returned home with nothing short of remarkable achievements.
On Saturday, November 19 recent graduate, Michelle Greeneway ’16, was recognized during the women’s hockey game during the first intermission for her receipt of the 2016 Laura Hurd Award – The NCAA National Women’s Hockey Player of the Year and The Midwest Conference Woman of the Year Award.
Sophomores Anhayte Guajardo and Kalay Kotasek, two members of the women’s golf team, recently helped their team to a third-place finish at the Midwest Conference Championships, which was the team’s highest finish since the program started in 2014. Both Guajardo and Kotasek attribute part of their success to the opportunity they were given over the summer to compete overseas in Scotland..
Lake Forest College will celebrate Homecoming 2016 this upcoming weekend on October 7-8. This week marks a very special time on campus for students, faculty, and alumni to take part in a full slate of activities that show school spirit and pride. It will also be a time to celebrate individuals who have impacted the College in more ways than imaginable.
On the cusp of Homecoming week, the Lake Forest College volleyball match against Ripon College on Friday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. will be a "Red & Black Out" in which all fans are encouraged to sport their Red and Black attire at the Sports & Recreation Center.
This past weekend Lake Forest College, in conjunction with the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), hosted the 2016 ACM Soccer Showcase at Farwell Field. The showcase featured both men’s and women’s teams from Coe College, Lawrence University, Macalester College, and Lake Forest College.

Hannah Douglas joined the Lake Forest College team in the fall of 2015. She holds a dual-role position within the athletic department as the assistant women’s basketball coach and the Marketing and Special Events Coordinator/Program Assistant.
Although athletics consumes a large part of a student-athlete’s time, many of our athletes still find time to become involved in campus life when they are not on the field, on the court, or in the pool. Senior and member of the men’s swimming and diving team, Virgil Thomas, has devoted much of his spare time to Alpha Tau Omega (ATO), a fraternity on campus.
Rakan Al-Mutawa, a graduate from Lake Forest College in 2013 and a four-year letter winner in football recently took his success in athletics to new heights after winning the championship title at the 2016 Asia Rugby Championship Tournament in Doha, Qatar.
Following the conclusion of a successful softball season, summer vacations, internships, and jobs are in full-swing for students at Lake Forest College. However, for senior pitcher, Jessi Werner and sophomore left fielder, Sydney Gardner, vacations and jobs have been put on hold after both students were selected to represent the College, NCAA Division III, and the United States in Cape Town, South Africa.
Lake Forest College 2016 graduate Michelle Greeneway will be participating in the invitation only National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) prospect camp this weekend. Greeneway is one of the top prospects among 22 free agents vying for a spot in the NWHL.
The Annual F.A.N. Club Golf Outing has been a tradition at Lake Forest College for over 20 years. Entering its 21st year, the outing will again be held at White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills, Illinois on Friday, June 17, 2016.
Lake Forest College’s weight room is located at the Sports and Recreation Center on the first level. Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Andrew Rauen, works primarily in this room helping nearly 400 student-athletes develop strength, speed, and agility to reach their athletic goals.
